Demolition Derby

Demolition DerbyThe New River Valley is seeking brave men and women to compete in a Demolition Derby on Monday, July 21st 2008. The cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winner.

Demolition Derby’s are the fastest growing spectator sport in American today. Daring drivers battle to the finish to see who can deliberately destroy all the other cars. The last car running is declared the winner.

Safety precautions will be taken to protect the spectators. The drivers will be risking their lives to survive the motorized mayhem and collect the big cash purse.
A majority of the competitors will be from this area. Many of the drivers are gathering a large following of fans to cheer them on to victory.

Demolition Derby’s have been featured on television and in sports magazines. The New River Valley Fair will stage the only one in this area this season.  The crashing and smashing gets under way at the New River Valley Fairgrounds. We’ll see you there!

2008 Star of the Blue Ridge Contest

The New River Valley Fair is pleased to announce the return of the innovative and exciting contest that is designed to find the Star of the Blue Ridge. Star of the Blue Ridge is a free contest open to the general public that’s goal is to find the most talented solo singer in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Due to the world’s fascination with home-grown talent, we feel that this area has fertile soil to grow such talent, because of this we are producing our own contest to find the talented voices that reside in our region.

Jake Owen

Jake Owen

“Since I was 12 years old, my plan was to play professional golf. I was determined that golf was going to be my life. I couldn’t wait to get out there and start playing with Tiger Woods and the guys on tour, said Jake Owen, who’d mapped out his life at 12 years old.
Jake Owen’s aim was true; unfortunately, one summer afternoon he suffered a career ending injury. That accident turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When he put down his golf clubs, he picked up a guitar, and a new plan emerged; one that would take him off the fairway and onto Music Row, bypassing—he admits— many of the traditional steps along the route.

Jake Owen was born 15 minutes after his fraternal twin Jarrod, but he caught up quickly. Raised in Vero Beach, Florida, the two took advantage of the year-round warm weather to indulge in all kinds of sports—tee-ball, baseball, football.

Aaron Tippin

Aaron Tippin

The hardest workin man in country music is back and ready for action. Though he was still touring heavily, he had not recorded new material for 3 years. After a 3 year break from recording, Aaron Tippin is now ready to share his new music with his devoted fans and catch some new ears along the way too.

After Aaron Tippin parted ways with Lyric Street records in 2004, he began recording a brand new CD that he released on his own label called NIPPIT RECORDS (which is TIPPIN spelled backwards). The album is titled “Now & Then” and is a mixture of new songs with some of Aaron’s greatest hits. Included in the brand new CD is a song that Aaron and his wife Thea wrote about his father who passed away a couple of years ago. The song is titled “He Believed” and holds a very special place in Aaron’s heart.
